Glee Adds a Christian Character to the Cast

So Ryan Murphy spoke to TV Guide a couple of weeks ago and here is what he said about the addition of a new character.
“I’m adding a Christian character… We’ve taken a couple jabs at the right wing this year, so what I want to do with this character is have someone who Christian kids and parents can recognize and say, ‘Oh, look — I’m represented there, too!”
Apparently this character is going to get long with most members of the club – but not openly gay Kurt.
Sounds like a cool addition, don’t you think? =)

sounds like I, who can recognize myself in kurt, has the same problem kurt will have with this new christian character… xd

When i heard about the GLEE auditions i thought to myself what character haven’t they got? I never thought of someone religious. Well i sorta did with Quinn but this character will get focused on a bit more ab out the religion. SOunds good! cant wait!!!!
Sounds like a stereotyped christian to me. As both a Glee lover and a christian, I’m disappointed that they’ll make the character intolerant of Kurt. But Glee does love to take “jabs” at the right wing, so I can’t say I’m surprised. Christ taught tolerance and love for everyone. Why can’t the christian character be portrayed in that light?
I’m actually hurt that they would make a Christian character intolerant of Kurt. I’m a Christian and a preacher’s kid and some of my really good friends are gay. I’ve always been taught to “love the sinner, not the sin”, but I’ll admit that there are extremists that don’t always take that same stance on things.
i agree with these comments. i am a cristian and am hurt by this. as a christian i am gay and we are completly tollerant of gays and people. this upsets me.
same here . im a christian and i have some very good friends which are gay! i love glee and each of the characters is very stereotyped by everything except for the fact they’re in glee
Christ did NOT teach tolerance. He taught love of people, but NOT tolerance. I agree to love the sinner and not the sin, but at the same time, we shouldn’t be tolerant of it. There’s a line in there somewhere. I guess we’ll just have to see where they take it.

Will it be a situation where the character is completely intolerant of Kurt and his lifestyle or will it be cliched where the person initially rejects it but eventually accepts Kurt?
